Ford India recently exported its 5000th container, thus despatching so far over 100,000 units of Ford Ikons in completely knocked down condition.

"It reaffirms our leadership position in producing automobiles of international quality in India," a company press release said, quoting David Friedman, the managing director and president.

Set up over an area of 70,000 sq ft, the Ford India Export plant at Maraimalai nagar (about 50 km from here), started functioning in May 2000. The company exports Ikon CKD kits to Mexico, South Africa and China.

Established in 1995, Ford India is a subsidiary of Ford Motor Company, a global automotive giant.
