Cell to redress Exim grievances

The government on Thursday launched a Grievances Redress Cell for exporters and importers in a bid to improve the of the directorate general of foreign trade.

The three-member Cell will be headed by Gopal K Pillai, additional secretary in the commerce ministry. The two other members are Rahul Khullar, joint secretary in the ministry and S Jagadeesan, joint secretary in the department of industrial policy and promotion, an official release said.

The members would meet every fortnight, the release added. The setting up of the Cell called the Grievance Redress Committee was first announced in the foreign trade policy on August 31.

The commerce minister Kamal Nath had said this new mechanism would facilitate speedy redressal of grievances of trade and industry and substantially reduce prolonged and unnecessary litigations.

This would also foster partnership between the government and industry. Apart from speedy redressal of grievances, the committee would also hear grievances against the decisions taken by the DGFT.
