The government on Wednesday cleared the deck for Embraer of Brazil to supply five small aircraft for the movement of VIPs.
The final selection of Embraer was done on the basis of the lowest price it offered, Defence Minister George Fernandes told the Rajya Sabha in a written reply.
Only a Canadian firm made a representation for re-evaluation of their aircraft Challenger 604 and the Canadian Special Edition, Fernandes said when asked whether the rival French and Canadian bidders have alleged foul play on the evaluation of bids.
The Challanger 604 had earlier not been considered as it did not meet the laid down technical specifications, the minister said.
The firm had not offered the Canadian Special Edition in response to the tender and hence only the Global Express of the Canadian firm was considered, Fernandes said, adding re-evaluation after the opening of the commercial bids could not be agreed to.
