According to a press release from Nichi-In Bio Sciences Ltd, an Indo-Japanese joint venture company, said a simple generator kept under the stairs acts by a lever, which goes down by the weight when one walks over it. This action rotates gear attached to a dynamo, which produces electricity.
"The electricity thus produced can be used directly or at some later stage," the release said, adding that the device has been named ADL (Activities of Daily Life) Energy.
The device was invented by Dr Parikumar, an ophthalmologist, and Dr Samuel JK Abraham, the release said. Quoting Parikumar, the release said ADL Energy was an eco-friendly device since it produced no emission.
Hope Foundation and Nichi-In Biosciences plan to approach Japanese collaborators to improve the device, the release said.
