An overwhelming 88 per cent Indians are optimistic about country's economic performance during the next 12-month period, according to an AC Nielsen Online Consumer Confidence survey.

"Indians are clearly the most optimistic people in the world for the coming 12-month period in terms of economic growth. With 88 per cent of Indians bullish about it, we are even more positive than China," Sarang Panchal, AC Nielsen South Asia executive director (customised research services), said in a release.

The survey said that with the economy moving up rapidly, Indians have become more optimistic about employment opportunities and personal finances.

"The impact of outsourcing and a growing pool of literate, employable young adults has resulted in a flourishing of opportunities. For individuals this means that their disposable income will have a greater propensity to increase more rapidly than before", Sarang said.

The positive outlook on the above factors will also signal an exciting and vibrant time for consumer marketing as the majority of the people feel that the next 12 months would be a good time to buy.

About 37 per cent respondents to the survey cited economy and job security as major concerns over the next one-year period.

"On the one hand, Indians in the world are most optimistic consumers and on the other, health of the economy and job security are of utmost concern," Panchal said.
