Hyderabad-based DQ Entertainment (DQE) has become the first Indian animation company to tap London's AIM to raise $56 million (around Rs 225 crore).

The company successfully placed 19,727,961 new ordinary shares priced at £1.36 a share. DQE will have a market capitalisation of  48.9 million pounds on admission.

The company had raised $10 million through debts. In total, it has raised $66 million for its expansion plans.

DQE will use the proceeds for its infrastructural expansion of its production facilities, gaming division and the new media division.

The new media division of the company will focus on the domestic market and produce animated Hindi feature films, TV series, and Hindi feature films. It is already in talks with three production houses of Bollywood for such deals.

The company will also use the proceeds for investing in global brands and intellectual property ownership.

A part of the investment is also being used to buyout existing investors - IL&FS, Hyderabad-based i-labs, TDA Capital Partners, India Value Funds and IFC Washington.

"Our investors have partially exited. Post-listing, DQE management, employees and directors will have close to 25 per cent stake, 53 per cent will be for the public and the rest will be with the investors locked in for a year," said Chairman and CEO Tapaas Chakravarti, DQ Entertainment.

The company has acquired 20 per cent stake in France-based Method Films. This will help market accessibility and fund access in future. It has also entered into two joint ventures - Ireland-based Telegale and France-based Onyx Films. Three feature films are in pipeline with Onyx. DQE and Onyx JV will see DQE holding 51 per cent.

DQE has also signed co-production deals with US-based Marvel Comics to work on the popular animated character Ironman series. It will be co-producing Casper the Friendly Ghost with Classic media of US and France-based MoonScope.

It also has a co-production tie-up with American Greetings for two series. Besides, the company has invested in six other properties for co-production work.

The group has over 80 clients worldwide. It also inaugurated its eighth animation hub in Hyderabad spread over 25,000 sq.ft.

This centre will accommodate 810 people, 400 have already started to work from here. This brings the total employee base of the company to 2,800.
