Dell Computers is aiming at the number one spot in the mobile computing market in India.

Aggressively positioning itself with new line of products such as mobile workstations and corporate notebooks, the company on Tuesday announced said it was growing far ahead of the market in India and expecting top slot in a couple of years.

"Although we are at the fourth position in India in mobile computing market unlike the US where we are leading with 29 per cent market share, we are witnessing a strong growth in India in particular and Asia Pacific in general, with over 100 per cent growth on year-on-year basis," Rakesh Mandal, senior brand manager, Dell - Precision, South Asia, Australia, New Zealand and Asia Pacific Customer Centre told the media.

He said the company saw lot of opportunities in India. "Since we are growing ahead of the market, it is definitely at the cost of our competitors and our aspiration is to be the number one player in the country," he added.

Mandal said the aim of the company is to deliver best value propositions to its customers and for this the company was enhancing its portfolio significantly.

Quoting the IDC PC Tracker, March 2006 report, Mandal said, while the market share of mobile computing across the globe was 42.4 per cent in the computing market, Dell's market share was 19 per cent with a year-on-year growth of 37 per cent.

Dell also announced the launching of Dell Precision M90 and Dell Precision M65, tipped to be the next generation mobile workstations.

These, the company said, enable engineers, artists, developers and various other professionals to take their business critical certified applications everywhere without compromise.

Besides, Dell also announced launching of Dell Latitude D620 and Latitude D820, which features Intel Core Duo processors.

According to the company, these new Latitude systems address the customers' needs in robust design, comprehensive security options and significant reductions from their prior generation products in terms of weight and thickness.

Mandal said, "In Asia Pacific and India, we continue to see increasing acceptance of notebooks, which make access to information easier irrespective of the geographical location and time," Particularly, these were helpful for enterprises having presence across the globe and who have a decentralisation of sales team, he added.
