May 08, 2003 20:20 IST

Indian backoffice firm Daksh eServices said on Thursday it had opened its fourth centre in the country to service clients in the global financial industry.

The centre in Mumbai will provide voice and e-mail services to two companies in the retail and banking, financial and insurance sectors, a company spokeswoman said.

"The contact centre has a projected capacity of 1,000 seats," she told Reuters. "We have about 200 people working in the first phase."

The company expects its head count to touch 4,500 people by March 2004, up from more than 3,200.

Daksh counts web retailer Amazon.com among its clients. The firm has three facilities on the outskirts of New Delhi.

It had reported a revenue of $29.12 million for the year to March 2003, up 62 per cent over the previous year.
