The erstwhile Dabhol power plant, now renamed Ratnagiri Gas and Power Pvt Ltd, on Monday moved a step closer to full capacity utilisation with the synchronisation of steam turbine of the 740 MW Block-II.
The project, which has resumed operations after a five-year long gap, started generation on May 1 from its first gas turbine of Block-II.
At present, the plant is generating about 180 MW and full capacity of Block-II is expected to be available for Maharashtra by the middle of this month, an RGPPL release said.
The combined cycle power plant is currently being run on naptha but would be switched over to gas by the end of this year when the full capacity of 2,150 MW is made available for commercial purpose.
Maharashtra, which is facing shortages of over 3,000 MW, would be getting electricity at Rs 4.25 per unit for the short period of 50 to 55 days, for which distribution utility Mahadiscom has already entered into an agreement with RGPPL.
Presently, public sector NTPC and GAIL are major stakeholders in RGPPL, which is a special purpose vehicle floated to take over the project from earlier Dabhol Power Company.
