Cognizant makes it to Fortune 1000 listing

Global consulting and business process outsourcing firm Cognizant said on Wednesday it has been named in Fortune Magazines' Fortune 1000 listing.

Fortune 1000 comprises a list of thousand largest American companies in terms of revenues compiled by the US business magazine.

The Nasdaq-listed firm, which has a significant presence in India reported a revenue of $2.136 billion in 2007.

Based on this, the company entered the listing at number 859, Cognizant said.

The report would appear on the magazine's May 5, 2008 edition. 

Cognizant's global headcount at the end of December 2007 was 55,400, which included more than three-fourth (over 41,000) of the company's employees in India.

The outsourcing major plans to expand its headcount in the country by about 14,700 this year and also broadbase its talent pool by hiring doctors, lawyers and CAs. 

Founded in 1994, Cognizant has made it to the list in the 14th year of its operations.

"It is a great honour for Cognizant to have been named to the prestigious Fortune 1000 listing," Cognizant President and CEO Francisco DSouza said.
