Improvement in power scenario, curbing farmers' suicide, growth in industrial and agriculture sector and bringing more investment to Maharashtra are the top priorities set for overall development of the state, Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh said on Monday.

"We have taken various steps to augment power generation and are confident that we will be able to overcome the present crisis of load shedding by 2011," Deshmukh told PTI over tea at his official residence 'Ramgiri' in Nagpur.

Acknowledging unabated suicides by farmers in Vidarbha region of the state, Deshmukh said his government will leave no stone unturned while handling the issue and has already initiated some measures to curb

suicidal tendencies among the farming community in the region.

On the agriculture front, he said the government was eying to achieve four per cent growth, adding some more concrete efforts are needed for industrial development.

Referring to Butibori Industrial estate in Nagpur, he said during his stint as Industries Minister in Vasantdada Patil Ministry, the biggest industrial estate in Asia was conceived but it failed to attract more industries and investment due to various factors.

Deshmukh said all efforts are now being made to revive developmental activities in Butibori and also to sustain conducive industrial environment for new big players to come to Maharashtra, particularly to Vidarbha.
