Chindwara, a small district in Madhya Pradesh, stole the limelight during a business and economic summit that wound up in Tokyo on Friday by securing Rs 563.14 crore ($125 million) funding for an irrigation project.

Commerce Minister Kamal Nath, who represents Chindwara constituency in the lower house of Parliament, said he managed to persuade the Japan Bank for International Cooperation to extend loan for the project that involves construction of a dam on river Pench.

Chindwara was clearly the flavour of the India-Japan Business Summit and East Asia Economic Summit that was held in Tokyo from June 14-16.

The rich culture of Madhya Pradesh was on show during the back-to-back summits through exhibitions of textiles from Chindwara, besides handicraft goods ranging from rugs to bags, table runner to mirror frame and lamps to copper items.
