October 31, 2008 11:25 IST

A full-length animated feature film based on the Chandamama stories would be produced by the Technopark-based Toonz Animation and Chandamama India Limited.

Toonz would undertake the entire production in its state-of-the-art studio in Technopark and would finance the full production cost which was estimated to be around Rs 20 crore (Rs 200 million), a statement said.

"Chandamama stories continue to linger in the minds of generations. The beauty of these stories lies in their simplicity and the socio-cultural values they try to communicate. The animated film would be a perfect platform to provide today's youth an engaging and educative environment," P Jayakumar,

CEO of Toonz Animation said.

Legendary film-makers B Nagi Reddi and his friend Chakrapani had conceptualised Chandamama in early 1947 and the company had been publishing stories in print as well as electronic media in 14 languages.

The library of Chandamama has over 15,000 exclusive stories.

L Subramanyan, CEO of Chandamama, said millions of Indians had grown up with Chandamama over the last 60 years.

"The proposed animated film will help us reach out to the current and future generations of young people," he said.
