Mobile subscriber base @ 5.29 crore in April

Mobile subscriber base touched 5.29 crore (52.9 million) in April with the addition of 396,000 CDMA based mobile users during the period.

After losing 521,000 subscribers in March, CDMA based mobile players added 396,000 users in April, reflecting a 3.78 per cent rise in user growth over the previous month. The slide in subscriber base in March had been due to nearly 980,000 disconnections reported by Reliance Infocomm on account of 'customer credit worthiness' and subscriber data verification.

Earlier GSM based mobile subscriber base had touched 4.21 crore (42.1 million) in April with 10.9 lakh (1.09 million) new connections.

The largest CDMA player Reliance Infocomm, has added 282,000 mobile subscribers taking its total user base to 96.12 lakh (9.61 million). 

Tata Teleservices added 112,000 new mobile users in April to take its user base to 12 lakh (1.2 million).

Shyam Telelink added 183 mobile users in April with its total mobile user base touching 27,846.

HFCL Infotel added 1415 new mobile users with the total mobile subscriber base touching 54,578.

Bharat Sanchar Nigam's April figures were not available while Mahanagar Telephone Nigam lost 62,372 wireline subscribers in the month and 100 subscribers in its WLL (M) services.

In GSM Bharti Tele-Ventures continues to be the leading player, with a subscriber base of 11.39 million and a market share of 27.04 per cent, while state-owned Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd ranks second with 96.8 lakh (9.68 million) customers and 23 per cent market share.
