Haier India, a 100 per cent subsidiary of the $9.7 billion Chinese firm Haier Group, will launch its mobile phone handsets in India in the next three months.
Haier had in January introduced its range of white goods in India, beginning with the northern region.
Last week the company had introduced its range of products in the western region, with Ahmedabad being the introduction point. The company aims to expand its dealer and distribution network across the country in the next few months.
Haier will introduce both global system for mobile phone and code division multiple access mobile handsets in India.
T K Banerjee, chairman and managing director, Haier India, said the mobile handsets introduced in India will be imported from the company's manufacturing facility in China.
"We have been selling mobile phones in Asian and European countries and these are selling extremely well.
Haier's mobile phones are manufactured at the company's manufacturing facility in China, which has a capacity of 25 million phones a year," said Banerjee.
Without revealing the price range, Banerjee said the company will launch its low end as well as high end models in India.
"It will be too early to either specify the price range or the market share that Haier expects from India," Banerjee said.
India has emerged as the second largest market for mobile phone handsets after China. Besides companies such as Nokia, Philips, Seimens, Sony Ericsson, Samsung, Motorola and LG and several new players such as BenQ, Bird, DBTEL, Kyocera and Alcatel have re-entered the Indian mobile handset market.
