Consumer goods from Cartoon Network

Aiming to tap the estimated $90 million licensed merchandising retail market in India, Cartoon Newtork Enterprises, the licensing division of Cartoon Network, on Wednesday launched consumer products programme for its cartoon characters in India.

"The retail market for licensed merchandising in India is estimated to be about $ 90 million and we are looking to tap this market with the introduction of the merchandise of our various cartoon characters," John S Friend, Senior vice-president, Cartoon Network Enterprise said, while launching the consumer products programme.

The company is looking at merchandise business to contribute about 50 per cent of its total business, CNE director, licensing and merchandising India and South Asia, Jiggy George said.

In the first phase of the programme, seven product categories of apparel, accessories, stationary, gifts and novelties, bags, toys and games of cartoon characters 'The Powerpuff Girls', 'Dexter's Laboratory' and 'Johnny Bravo' were introduced.

"Later on we will also introduce footwear, home décor, linen, publishing, personal care products, branded foods and greeting cards of our different cartoon characters," George said.
