Car prices to be up by Rs 15000

Buying a car will be dearer by Rs 4,000-15,000 in 2007, with most of the automobile companies revising prices.

Hyundai Motor India has increased the price of its new model Verna by Rs 3,500-10,000. The company is yet to announce the price hikes for its other models.

The price of petrol variant of the Verna has been raised by Rs 3,500 (for the base model), while the diesel model has become dearer by Rs 10,000.

Tata Motor has raised the price of its sport utility vehicle Safari by Rs 15,000 and the multi-activity vehicle Sumo by Rs 5,000. However, it has abstained from raising price of the popular Indica range and will not be increasing it in the near future.

Honda Siel Cars India has increased the price of its existing City range by Rs 5,200 to Rs 8,400 and the Civic range by about Rs 12,000. The new rates are effective Saturday.

Jnaneshwar Sen, senior marketing manager, HSCI, said, "The increase, necessitated by rising costs of inputs such as steel, aluminum and plastics and other inflationary pressures, is in the range of 1-1.2 per cent on the current price. This is the first price increase by HSCI in the past two years and the price of luxury sedan Accord will be announced shortly as a new model is being launched soon."

Ford India has increased the price of the Fiesta by Rs 10,000 and the Endeavour by Rs 15,000. It also plans to raise the price of the Fusion and Ikon too.

Jagdish Khattar, managing director, Maruti Udyog, had announced a price revision in the last month at eh launch of the Zen Estilo. However, the market leader has not yet announced the details.

The Estilo was brought out at a invitation price of Rs 3.20 lakh for the base model and are expected to be revised soon. Sources say any price hike would be effective next week along with other models.

Similarly Toyota Kirlosker Motor, Fiat and General Motor will also be increasing their prices, but has not made any announcement yet but is expected in another few days.
