Passengers? Didi has lot on offer

PassengersWhile presenting the Railway Budget 2010 at the Parliament on Wednesday, Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee said Rs 1,302 crore (Rs 13.02 billion) has been provided for passenger amenities in the 2010-11 Budget against Rs 923 crore (Rs 9.23 billion) last year.

Banerjee said that her ministry is going for a special drive for cleanliness.

She said they have already introduced Janata Ahar or economically priced food, in many stations.

Follwing several complaints, it has been decided to provide catering departmentally in selected trains. The catering policy is under revision and will be finalised as early as possible, the railway minister said.

To provide clean drinking water, six new bottling plants at Ambala, Amethi, Mal, Nasik, Farakka and Trivandrum through the PPP route will be set up so that bottled fresh water can be provided at stations at cheaper rates.
