The US will try to contribute towards the economic progress of West Bengal, US Assistant Secretary of State Richard Boucher said on Friday and complimented West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharya for his efforts to improve the fiscal condition of the state.
"We are trying to organise trade delegations and we are talking to the US companies about the improved situation in West Bengal," Boucher told reporters at the state secretariat after an hour-long meeting with the chief minister.
He praised Bhattacharya saying "here is, within the system, somebody on the ground who is trying very hard to improve the economic life of the state."
Describing his talks with Bhattacharya as a chance to look at progress being made in the state, Boucher observed that there was an improvement in West Bengal's "general situation."
