100,000 more cell connections in J&K

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd has decided to expand mobile telephony network in Jammu and Kashmir by 100,000 more connections to meet the growing demand.

Arun Kumar, chief general manager (J&K circle), informed Chief Minister M M Sayeed in Jammu on Wednesday that of the planned new mobile phone connections, 40,000 would be provided in Jammu and 35,000 in Srinagar city.

BSNL would expand infrastructure for the purpose.

Kumar told the Chief Minister that BSNL was making all out efforts to start mobile phone facility for Gulmarg, especially during the forthcoming national winter games, adding the service was expected to start by June.

Sayeed enquired about the functioning of telephone exchange at Darhal in Rajouri district.

Meanwhile, BSNL inaugurated a customer service centre of Jammu telecom district. The customer service centre will have facilities of bill payment, issuance of duplicate bills, cheque drop box, STD PCO Indian telephone card, Internet card (Sancharnet) and application forms for shifting and transfer of telephones.

The facility will be available for the secretariat. This is one of the nine such centres set up by BSNL in Jammu city.
