Israeli co plans JV with BPL Telecom

Israel's Tadiran Telecom on Wednesday entered into a strategic alliance with BPL Telecom to sell its enterprise products including advanced digital PBX systems in India and said it would set up a joint venture with the Indian company for local manufacturing of components next year.

"Tadiran is exploring the possibility of local manufacturing and R&D in India together with its partner BPL Telecom. This will help Tadiran increase its current

market share of about 10 per cent to 20 per cent in India," Zeev Aviv, vice president, sales & marketing, Tadiran Telecom said in New Delhi.

The proposed JV may start manufacturing components for Tadiran's global needs at the BPL factory in Palakkad in early next year, he said adding the company globally invests 20 per cent of its revenue in R&D and a significant part of that part would be invested in India.

Aviv said the company is also in the process of setting up a subsidiary in India from the current status of a representative office. Tadiran has 5000 systems installed in India with customers like Rashtrapati Bhavan, ISRO Laboratory, Parliament House, Army House and the Indian Railways.

Targeted at the call centres, enterprises, the Tadiran's range of PBX systems will be positioned as mid and high-end applications including stand-alone and web based call centres and other IP-based applications.

While BPL Telecom has its own PBX systems for the Indian market, the company will also sell Tadiran products in the same product line as the focus market of both companies are different, P Jayakrishnan, director, sales, BPL Telecom said.

For the year 2004-05, BPL Telecom is expecting a revenue of Rs 200 cr (Rs 2 billion) from PBX systems and Rs 300 crore (Rs 3 billion) next fiscal, Jayakrishnan said.
