"The creation of Random House India is a strategic move in line with Random House's well established policy of developing indigenous publishing across the world. The book market in India is developing and exciting. We are expanding our presence at the right moment," Gail Buk, chairman and chief executive officer of Random House Group said.
Random House until now was mainly was into distribution of books originating outside India, a company statement said in New Delhi.
The Indian arm is a part of the Random House in UK and it will publish mainly in English but will be open to possibilities of Indian language editions.
Its forthcoming titles include, Salman Rushdie's 'Shalimar the Clown'. The company has appointed Vivek Ahuja as its general manager to oversee its business in India.
