More and more employers in the Untied States are giving bonuses based on performance instead of annual raises for all employees, a media report has said.

"Once the province of upper management and executives, bonuses are ending up in the pockets of a much broader group of employees than they used to," The Wall Street Journal reported.

Executives, of course, continue to pick up the biggest bonus cheques each year, typically from 30 to 50 per cent of their pay, the report said.

Upper managers generally receive 15 to 25 per cent of their underlying pay while middle managers are typically eligible for bonuses of 10 to 15 per cent, it added.
