UK's bmi to start London-Mumbai flights

UK's second largest airline, bmi, announced on Thursday that it would launch it's London-Mumbai flights from May 14.

The flight will operate on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday with return services from Mumbai to Heathrow on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday. bmi's introductory fares start from Rs 26,500.

bmi offers smooth connectivity to a wide range of destination in the UK and Europe from Heathrow. It also plans to offer authentic Indian vegetarian and non-vegetarian cuisine with chefs on board to cater to its passengers. To support the development  bmi will also introduce a fourth aircraft into its long haul fleet.

Commenting on the announcement, bmi chief executive officer, Nigel Turner said, "We are delighted to be confirming the launch date of the first ever bmi long haul services from London Heathrow.  This is a great opportunity for London travellers to experience, for the first time on long haul flights, the whole range of service benefits and competitive fares that bmi has built its reputation on. Our award winning three-class cabin will provide travellers between London and Mumbai with a range of products to suit their needs.

"We remain determined to press our case for greater frequencies and the chance to serve more destinations in India as soon as the opportunity is given."

bmi's existing long haul fleet consists of three Airbus A330 aircraft.  The aircraft operate in a three-class configuration of 24 business seats, 48 premium economy seats and 172 economy seats.

bmi is a member of Star Alliance. The Star Alliance network serves 755 destinations in 132 countries with over 14,000 daily flights.
