The twin blasts in India's 'IT city' on Saturday no doubt destabilised normal life and created panic in the minds of the common people, but life in Hyderabad's information technology and business process outsourcing sector is on in full steam.
Will foreign investment slowly dry up considering that the city is now a soft target for the terrorists? Although all IT establishments in the city have beefed up security after the
blasts, they are confident that Saturday's events will have no effect on the inflow of foreign investment to the city.
"Which company is free of this menace of terrorism?" asked a senior employee of an IT company. "If we start cowing down, then there will be no end to it. I know that there will be tension for a few days, but things will return to normal. Life has to go on, it cannot stop."
Industry sources said that the city will continue to march on and such acts of terrorism will not become a deterrent to the city's growth.
The Andhra Pradesh police say that the spirit in the IT industry may be right, but the matter cannot be taken lightly. They have to do their share to ensure that establishments are secure and if they need additional security, the state will always provide that.
The Hyderabad Software Exporters Association said that there is no panic, but precautions have been taken. The establishments have instructed their employees to inform the security personnel in case they find anything suspicious and also not to touch any unattended object.
Life in the BPOs also went on as usual. A few BPO staffers told rediff.com that the issue is being discussed extensively in their offices.
They said that the foreign clients are very supportive. Most callers expressed their sympathies.
"Although our city has been struck, we will continue to lead a normal life, as we do not want to portray the image that we have been beaten."
