Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd has bagged a Rs 2,125 crore (Rs 21.25 billion) worth contract from National Thermal Power Corp for setting up Stage-III of the 1,000 mw Vindhyanchal Super Thermal Power Station in Madhya Pradesh.
The project, to be executed by Bhel's Power Sector -- Western Regions, involves setting up of two units of 500 mw each with the first set slated to be completed in 42 months, followed by the second one in six months, a release from the public sector electrical major said here on Saturday.
"With completion of Stage-III, the cumulative generating capacity of Vindhyanchal STPS will be enhanced to 3,260 mw, making it the largest power generating station in India," Bhel said.
The scope of work included manufacture, supply, erection and commissioning of steam turbines, generators, boilers, associated auxillaries, balance of plant and electricals for two sets of 500 mw each, controls and instrumentation and electrostatic precipitators.
The turbine generators and boilers would be manufactured by Bhel's Haridwar and Trichy plants respectively, while C&I system would come from its electronics division at Bangalore.
Bhel's Hyderabad plant would supply the coal mills and boiler feed pumps and the electricals would come from Bhopal and Jhansi units.
Bhel is already associated with NTPC for Talchar STPS of 2,000 mw in Orissa, Rihand STPS of 1,000 mw in Uttar Pradesh and Ramagundam STPS of 500 mw in Andhra Pradesh.
