IOL Broadband to broadcast BBC channels on IPTV

IOL Broadband said on Friday it will broadcast two BBC channels -- CBeebies and BBC Entertainment -- through its internet protocol television platform.

"BBC has collaborated with IOL Broadband for broadcasting of kids channel CBeebies and BBC Entertainment channel on IPTV, which is currently available on the MTNL and BSNL networks," IOL Broadband Director A S Oberai said.

The company has also been appointed as authorised distributor for BBC Global Services to promote its channels across all IPTV platforms in India, IOL Broadband said in a communique to the Bombay Stock
Exchange.

"By collaborating with an institution like BBC which is a global leader in news, media and content, we are looking forward to broadcast these two channels to our IPTV viewers with many more channels to follow from BBC," Oberai added.

In October last year, IOL Broadband rolled out India's first IPTV service, enabling subscriber access digital television services through internet protocol, in association with the Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd.

The shares of IOL Broadband were trading at Rs 452.35, up 3.28 per cent on BSE in late afternoon trade.
