Bajaj policy covers 2nd opinion for illness

Bajaj Allianz General Insurance on Monday launched a unique scheme, which covers the expenses for taking second opinion for critical illness.

The 'e-Opinion Rider' comes with the personal accident policy for which an individual will have to pay a premium of Rs 476 per year plus a service tax of Rs 49.

Under e-Opinion Rider, the insurance company will cover the expenses of a second opinion e-consultation services for serious illness in India.

Bajaj Allianz, which provides health insurance to half a million people in India, is providing the rider through WorldCare Inc of US, a pioneer in development and distribution of global health care services and solutions.

The e-consultation will be provided by Worldcare Consortium consisting three of America's best medical centres - The Cleveland Clinic, Duke University Health System and Partners HealthCare System.

Policyholders who have purchased the e-Opinion Rider will be able to avail upto three expert e-consultations per year and the maximum limit during a lifetime is six opinions.

If a policyholder develops critical illness including cancer and heart disease, he may send all the details of the disease to WorldCare Consortium for specialist review and the second opinion on diagnosis and treatment will be made available in a week's time.

"This seamless access can't help but improve the quality of health care decision making for our customers, their families and their attending physicians," Bajaj Allianz CFO S Sreenivasan said.
