BA would double the number of flight services from Heathrow airport in London to Delhi from one to two a day and intends to fly daily from Bangalore and Chennai, a key official of the world's second largest airline said.
From Bangalore it currently operates five flights a week, and six flights from Chennai. "This is India's year", Robert James Baird, area general manager, Africa, the Middle-East, Central and South Asia, said.
On October 31, the airways launched a Bangalore-London direct flight, making it the first airline to offer a direct connectivity from Bangalore to the UK.
As an upshot of successful UK-India bilateral talks, BA has doubled its weekly frequency of flights from 19 to 35. The airline doubled its flights between London and Mumbai from one to two a day and London and Chennai from two to six, apart from launching the direct service from Bangalore.
"We want to get that (increasing the number of flights to 42) done as quickly as possible. During this summer India will be our focus", Baird said.
BA looked at India as a "key market" which has a huge potential for tourism and international trade. India was also one of the top five destinations for BA, which generated 40 per cent of its total business out of the UK.
