Standing in the sun trying to waive down an auto and then haggling for the right fare could soon be a passé as 'auto-on-phone' service is set to start soon in New Delhi.
'Autos on Demand', a service to be launched by an NGO, will help you to order for a Three-wheel Scooter Rickshaw (TSR) just like you do for a taxi by phone.
The only difference in this service would be that to begin with, one will have to SMS the house address to a particular number which will then send a GPS (Global Positioning System) fitted auto within the shortest time possible.
"The service would be launched by the end of this month. Initially it will be through SMS and later we would get a proper phone service in place," Rakesh Aggarwal, Secretary, NyayaBhoomi, an NGO working for the betterment of auto drivers said.
The autos drivers will have uniforms and will take a passenger to the destination as per the metre rate besides a nominal service charge.
The autos would be fully refurbished giving the passenger all the comfort possible in a three-wheeler like proper seat covers, drapes on the sides to protect from sun and wind among others. The auto drivers will also be given a crash course in grooming.
