General Motors launches diesel version of Beat

Chevrolet BeatCar-maker General Motors on Monday launched the diesel version of its small car, Beat, in India, priced between Rs 429,000 and Rs 545,000 (ex-showroom, Delhi).

"Offering a diesel engine developed for Indian consumers in our most popular model is a momentous achievement for the company," General Motors India president and managing director Karl

Slym told reporters in New Delhi.

The company launched the diesel car with a 1.0-litre engine, which has been developed specifically for India by GM's Technical Centre in Bengaluru, in collaboration with GM Powertrain, Europe.

As per ARAI standards, the Beat diesel gives mileage of 24 kilometres per litre, the company claimed.

Till now, the company was selling the Beat in petrol and liquefied petroleum gas variants.
