Cheating case: Apollo Health CEO held

August 12, 2008 17:39 IST

The chief executive officer of Apollo Health and Life Style Limited (AHLL) Ratan Jalan, was arrested by Uttar Pradesh police from Hyderabad in a cheating case booked at Aligarh.

"An Aligarh court issued non-bailable warrant against Ratan Jalan, on charges of criminal breach of trust and cheating, following which a police team from Aligarh came to the city on Monday and arrested him," Banjara Hills Assistant Commissioner of Police V Ramakrishnaiah told PTI on Tuesday.

Jalan is a resident of Srinagar Colony in Hyderabad.

Based on a complaint filed by the promoter of Rex Healthcare India Pvt Ltd, cases were registered against Jalan, sources said.

Meanwhile, the Aligarh police on Tuesday applied for transit remand against Jalan from a local court here seeking to take him back to Aligarh.

Jalan was likely to be taken back this evening, sources said.

On the other hand, authorities at AHLL on Tuesday maintained that the promoter of Aligarh-based Rex Healthcare India (RH) Pvt Ltd had filed the case only to harass the management of AHLL.

They said an agreement had been signed between AHLL and RH on October 20, 2005.

According to the agreement, the licensee (RH) shall pay to the licensor (AHLL) a non-refundable sum of Rs 20 lakhs (Rs 2 million) and Rs 2,04,000 (10.2 per cent) as service charges which is also the initial license fee.

As per the agreement, this non-refundable fee shall not be returned even in the eventuality of termination of this agreement in the development stage, they said.

AHLL, a franchise-based business model with a network of 50 Apollo Clinics across India, plans to move a local court in Aligarh seeking bail for its CEO.
