Allsec Technologies Ltd, a Chennai-based third party business process outsourcing firm offering both voice and non-voice based services, sees the North-Eastern region as a potential source for hiring talent.
The company, which currently employs 20-25 people from this region, initiated its recruitment drive there in October 2005, and plans to make the region a regular feature in its future talent hunt.
"Allsec has for some time now seen the North-Eastern region as a potential source for hiring talent. This was based on the good performance of the candidates from these states who are already working with us," R Jagadish, director and chief executive officer told Business Standard.
Talent acquisition from the region would have prominence in the company's plan to scale up its staff strength to 3,000 by March 2006, from the present 2,000. We will hire graduates with good communication skills from all the states in the region, he said.
However, the company did not divulge details of the number of people to be hired from this region. On what prompted the company to recruit people from the region, Jagadish said that a couple of people who came first on their own spoke highly of candidates there. The initial experience with people from this region has encouraged the company to start exploring the possibilities of hiring talent from this region.
Apart from relocation issues, Allsec doesn't see much difference between the local talent and those from the region.
The candidates go through the company's regular four-week induction training schedule, which includes, company update, accent neutralisation, training in soft skills, among others. Post-training, the candidates are deployed as per the project requirements.
The company is also exploring the possibilities of forging a tie-up with a university or an educational institution in the region to widen its reach to hire potential talent.
A leading staffing company Ma Foi has also been exploring the possibilities of hiring talent for its clients from this region for the past two years.
Anant Mohta, Ma Foi's head of Kolkata centre, said that the region offers potential talent for BPO and ITES companies to handle back office works like collections.
Ma Foi's business partner office in Guwahati recruits 50-60 people for medium voice processes (domestic support operations) and 10-15 people for high voice (international sales support) annually from these states for its clients.
