Citigroup, a global financial major, has appointed Ajay Sondhi as managing director and head of its global wealth management for the Indian subcontinent.

The appointment would be effective from July 1, 2005, Citigroup said in a release in Mumbai, adding that he would be based in Singapore and would report to Citigroup Global Wealth Management (Asia Pacific and Middle East) CEO Deepak Sharma.

Prior to joining Citigroup, Sondhi was working as vice chairman and managing director of Kotak Mahindra Capital Company, it added.

Sondhi would oversee Citigroup Global Wealth Management's businesses in India, Sri Lanka, Nepal and Bangladesh, and in the Non-Resident Indian markets.

"Ajay will be responsible for identifying opportunities and developing strategies to grow Citigroup's business in this large, fast-growing market," said Deepak Sharma.
