Splitting the market with its new 'segmentation' strategy, AirTel on Tuesday launched an exclusive prepaid card for the youth priced at Rs 249 and two post-paid plans for women and senior citizens with monthly rental of Rs 150 each.

The cellular major, with presence in 20 circles out of 23, also announced a 'Phone-to-Phone' recharge facility to woo the young customers, enabling them to transfer the talk time and validity of their mobile coupon to their friends and family anytime and anywhere with an Airtel service.

Announcing this, Atul Binal, director, mobility and group chief marketing officer, said the P2P feature was being introduced for the first time in the country. "In Philippines, the scheme has been a great success among youth."

The scheme for youth - Frienz - with the first 64K prepaid SIM card has a number of features like FriendzChat which enables a group of up to five friends to form a close user group and talk amongst themselves at a discounted call rate of 50 paise a minute with a one-time activation charge of Rs 25 from the person who starts the chat and can send SMS to up to 15 friends simultaneously at Rs 3.

The pre-paid Rs 249 card has call rates like Rs 1 per minute for any calls within Airtel network and Rs 2.25 a minute for calls to other mobiles and fixed line.

The Ladies Special Plan has Rs 150 as rental per month and has the facility like calling three regular local Airtel numbers at 50 paise a minute and sending 25 SMS at same price.
