Expressing its keenness to invest in the infrastructure development projects in India, Singapore on Friday said it was considering making investments in the modernisation of airports in the country.

With the government drawing up big plans for modernising the Mumbai and Delhi airports and upgrading other ports and highways, Singapore's Minister of State for National Development, Vivian Balakrishnan met Planning Commission Deputy Chairman K C Pant in New Delhi on Friday and discussed issues related to investments in these infrastructure development projects, including telecom.

Pant said the government was taking necessary measures to upgrade the airports to international standards and was open for private and foreign participation.

The security and control of the airports would however remain with the government, he said.

They also discussed investment opportunities in the railways, aviation and petrochemicals, official sources said.

Referring to the World Trade Organisation ministerial at Cancun beginning shortly, Pant highlighted the need for creating a livelihood box to address the needs of the millions in the developing countries who were dependent on agriculture.
