Engineers India Ltd, as part of a diversification strategy, will partner Bharti Enterprises and Changi Airport of Singapore in bidding for development of Delhi and Mumbai airports.

"While Bharti and Changi will be equity investors in the project, two other partners will be involved -- one for construction and the other as project management consultant. Larsen & Toubro will be the construction partner and we will be the PMC contractor," chairman and managing director M K Dalal said at a press conference.

It has already forayed into the airport sector as part of a consortium with CPG Singapore to design the Ahmedabad international airport terminal.

The company is also tying up with the Airports Authority of India for a feasibility study for Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation's Pune-Chakan airport.

Dalal told reporters that EIL is also planning a special thrust for the power sector and on engineering services as a business process outsourcing unit. The public sector company generated Rs 17.27 crore (Rs 172.7 million) revenue through consulting activities in the new areas.

Dalal said EIL's thrust was to secure more overseas contracts particularly in Iran, Indonesia, Vietnam, Algeria and Sudan. The company has already set up offices in Australia, Abu Dhabi and Doha and was planning an office in Iran.

Last financial year, the company secured important contracts including execution of the Indian Oil corporation's PTA project valued at Rs 952 crore (Rs 9.52 billion), a well-cum-water injection platform for Oil and natural Gas Corporation for Rs 284 crore (Rs 2.84 billion) and three pipeline project in Mumbai High for 50.48 crore (Rs 504.8 million).
