Karnataka Chief Minister S M Krishna said on Wednesday that work on the much delayed multi-crore Bangalore International Airport project, near Devanahally on the city outskirts, would commence from June 1.
The Zurich Airport Authority-led consortium has been awarded the project.
Krishna thanked Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee for his initiative to amend the Airport Authority Act, thus paving the way for removing all hurdles that had delayed the prestigious project.
Once the airport became operational, it would boost investment flow into the state and economic activities, he said adding the international airport would also give a fillip to export of horticultural produce from the state.
