Lankan Airlines slashes airfares by 50%

Sri Lankan Airlines has slashed its airfares by half for passengers travelling from Chennai to London, Paris, Zurich, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, Tokyo, Maldives and Malaysia.

According to a company release, travellers to London gain the maximum cost advantage flying from Chennai.

The airfare for Chennai-London-Chennai route is now available for Rs 16,790 plus taxes, as compared to the original price of Rs 33,580.

The other airfares include for Chennai-Singapore-Chennai is Rs 7,890, Chennai-Hong Kong-Chennai is Rs 12,370 and Chennai-Paris-Chennai is Rs 15, 860. All fares are exclusive of taxes.

These special fares are valid for travel before March 31, 2005 and tickets issued before February 28, 2005. 

"A sizeable percentage of Sri Lankan Airlines passenger traffic comes from Chennai. With improving lifestyles and increasing purchasing power, Chennaiites are opting for a holiday abroad," said Rohan Senaveratne, manager (south India).
