Air France on Thursday became the first international carrier to hike its fares from India by three euros, citing steep rise in aviation turbine fuel prices as the reason, which may also force Indian carriers to follow suit.
An Air France spokesman said the hike was a fuel surcharge and would be applicable to all flights international as well as domestic and for all passengers including children.
The move by Air France is likely to be followed by other major international carriers from India as turbine fuel prices in international markets have hit all time high, crossing the $40 a barrel benchmark.
According to aviation sources in New Delhi, the Indian domestic as well as international carriers could also be in line to hike the prices of air tickets as the state-owned oil companies have been absorbing the price hike in various oil products for the past few months.
