Air travellers to get real-time flight info

AircraftThis winter season fliers may expect less inconvenience because of fog at the Delhi airport as its operator has taken measures to provide flight information on real-time basis and reduce flight delays and cancellations.

"To reduce delays and congestion due to fog, we have devised a plan along with various stakeholders that would ensure smooth flow of flight information on almost real time basis to the passengers," said I Prabhakar Rao, Chief Executive Officer of Delhi International Airport Limited during a workshop on fog in New Delhi.

Passengers would be provided accurate information about flights through Flight Information Display System at the airport terminal.

It would be updated regularly by the Airport Operations Control Centre based on the information given by the airlines, he said.

Elaborating

on the other facilities, DIAL's Chief Operation Officer, Marcel Hungerbuehler said the number of help desks has been increased as also the food and beverage counters.

"There is a combined seating arrangement at Terminal 1 and Terminal 3 of 16,900, also there are around 6,100 trolleys for the passengers.

There are 24 F&B counters at T1, 27 at domestic side of T3 and 29 on the international side of T3 for convenience of the passengers," Hungerbuehler said.

On the city side, additional traffic marshals and two cranes have been deployed for smooth traffic movement, he said.

Hungerbuehler said cooperation is expected from stakeholders like airlines, air traffic management officials, ground handlers, food and beverage counters to ensure less inconvenience caused to the passengers.

MeT department has predicted that dense fog is likely to descend upon the airport from December 20.
