Even as the Indian advertising fraternity is divided over its loyalty to the local awards (Abby's or AAAI), global awards organisers are flocking to the Indian market. Their agenda is to attract more entries, appoint representatives and score over the rival global awards.
Clio awards executives are currently in the country. Last week, a team from D&AD global awards - which awards the Black and Yellow Pencil - was inviting entries at an event organised by the Ad Club of Bombay.
Ami Brophy, executive director, Clio Awards, told Business Standard they have recently signed up NDTV Media as their Indian representative. The Cannes awards considered as the Oscars of advertising, already has Bennett, Coleman & Co as its Indian representative.
"We are looking at creating awareness of the Clio brand in India. Cannes and Clio are the two most prestigious advertising events," said Raj Nayak, CEO, NDTV Media, adding that the media house would explore possibilities of holding roadshows to generate excitement around the Clios.
"We have been in talks with NDTV Media for a year. They understand the mechanism of how the awards work. Also we required a specialised approach as India is an emerging creative market," Brophy said. He added that last year Clio awards received 250 entries from the country.
D&AD is also encouraging Indian agencies to enter the awards. Heloise Hooton, deputy director, awards and annual programme, and Laura Woodroffe, deputy director, professional development, D&AD, showcased the award winning entries from the past. Internationally, Cannes, One Show, D&AD and Clio awards are the biggest advertising awards.
