ABB wins Rs 289 cr order from Delhi Metro

Engineering firm ABB India on Tuesday announced it has secured a Rs 289 crore (Rs 2.89 bn) order from Delhi Metro Rail Corporation for supply of electrification package for the second phase of the metro rail project.

The project includes electrification of overhead lines, provision of auxiliary sub-stations and a Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition solution interconnecting all the stations en-route and a back-up control centre.

The second project is expected to be completed by early 2010, ABB said in a communique to the Bombay Stock Exchange.

"We are indeed privileged to be selected once again by DMRC for Phase II of this

prestigious project. In addition to bringing cutting-edge technologies, we shall be in a position to leverage our previous experience," ABB India Vice Chairman and Managing Director Ravi Uppal said.

The first phase of the contract involved supply, installation, testing and commission of tractions electrification, power supply, power distribution and SCADA system for rail corridor.

Delhi Metro presently covers a 65 km area at underground, elevated and surface levels with 59 stations in operation. Phase II aims to extend the service to another 100 km with 75 stations.

Once completed, the network would serve most of the national capital region and is expected to carry over 11 lakh passengers per day.
