Ever since
conditional access system for cable TV viewing looked closer to becoming a reality, prices of media stocks have risen. But the same positive sentiment is not shared by the consumers.

The broadcasters have yet to declare the rates of the pay channels, availability of enough set-top boxes is questionable and the consumer is in the dark about what the total cable TV package may finally cost.

The government has, however, assured that cable TV viewing will now cost around Rs 200. Do you think CAS, to be implemented from July 15, will benefit you?

The United States-led war against Iraq has been meeting with strong opposition, with many anti-war protests and rallies being held all over the world.

On Monday, an anti-war group in India called for boycott of products of the United States soft drink majors Coca-Cola and Pepsi and the multinational giant Hindustan Lever Ltd in Kerala from Tuesday
(April 1) to condemn the superpower-led military action in Iraq.

Shopkeepers have been asked not to stock the products of the three companies, and anti-war squads have been formed to visit shops to ensure this.

Would you boycott the goods as well? Do you think this is a fair way to protest against war? Tell us what you think.

On February 28, Finance Minister Jaswant Singh unveiled his maiden
Budget for the fiscal year 2003-04.

Singh made an attempt to make life easier for the poor by offering tax concessions and taking steps to boost industry confidence. His efforts are also aimed at reviving the lacklustre capital markets, stirring infrastructure spending, encouraging investment, and promoting growth.

The Budget was regarded as a 'populist, pre-election Budget', but it will surely bring some cheer to the common man. The Budget won praise from most sections, but the Opposition parties were quick to criticise it too. Especially as the Budget fails to address the problems of economic growth and fiscal deficit.

What are your impressions of this Budget? Has it been beneficial to you? Or do you think it has failed? Tell us what you think!

Sachin Tendulkar endorsing Pepsi may be doing wonders to Pepsi sales, but after a dismal performance by the Indian cricket team against
Holland and Australia, these celebrity endorsers have been at the receiving end of harsh criticism.

Most feel that players' excessive concentration on endorsing brands affects their performance. India's victory against Zimbabwe may have offered some redemption, but critics will now be watching their game even more closely.

Do you think endorsements really interfere with cricketers' practice sessions? Would they perform better if they featured in lesser advertisements? Tell us what you think.

Finance Minister Jaswant Singh will unveil the
Union Budget on February 28, 2003.

As always, there are hopes and expectations galore from the FM.

So what is your wish-list? Do you want lower taxes, affordable commodities, better scope for savings, a thurst to the stock markets? Or do you prefer to look at the macro picture, wishing for overall growth in the economy?

What would you want the finance minister to do this time? Do tell us you demands.

On January 25, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India will
announce the revised basic telecom tariffs, including monthly rentals, call charges and the much-awaited interconnection charge.

While some analysts say fixed-line users should brace for an increase in the cost of their services, others are of the opinion that the government is unlikely to bring about any hike owing to possible protests from the public.

Should tariffs for fixed-line telephones be increased in the light of falling revenues for fixed-line operators? Would the hike be justified? Tell us what you think.

On January 9, Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee announced at the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas celebrations in New Delhi that Persons of Indian Origin in seven countries will be given dual citizenship.

But some people believe that dual citizenship can actually imperil the nation's security.

What do you think? Are the fears of misuse of dual citizenship for nefarious activities valid? Or do you see any benefits in dual citizenship? Tell us.

On December 27, 2002, Mukesh Ambani, chairman, Reliance Industries shook up the telecom industry by announcing unprecedented rates for a nationwide limited mobility or Wireless in Local Loop network when he launched Reliance IndiaMobile.

Within a week cellular operators, including Bharti, Hutch, BPL, Escotel and AT&T, slashed mobile-to-mobile STD rates to Rs 2.99 per minute.

Now it is the turn of public sector telecom firms -- Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd and Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd - to follow suit.

Do you feel the general public will benefit from these rate cuts? Should landline costs also be slashed? Why? Tell us, please.
