British Airways on Thursday announced a promotional scheme offering a basic fare of Rs 9,990 for London from major Indian cities like New Delhi and Mumbai, instead of the usual basic fare of about Rs 22,000.

British Airways is offering a special basic fare of Rs 9,990 for its flights to London from New Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad and Bangalore, British Airways said in a statement.

This, however, does not include the taxes, fees and surcharges, which add up to about Rs 18,000 and would be charged extra, taking the total fare to Rs 27,990.

The offer, valid for travel till April 12, 2009 in the economy class section, will be available for limited seats only, it said.

"India is an important market for us and we will continue to provide our customers excellent value for money and unparalleled service that they have come to expect from us," British Airways area commercial manager (South Asia) Amanda Amos said.

Bookings offering the promotional basic fare are open till March 22, 2009, the statement said. British Airways presently operates 48 flights per week from London Heathrow to Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad and Kolkata.
