The eight-day-old strike by transporters has been called off after negotiations between the government and the representatives of the All India Motors Transport Congress (AIMTC).

"The strike has been called off," Transport Secretary Brahm Dutt told PTI, after a second round of talks with the truckers in the afternoon today.

He, however, did not disclose the details of the agreement reached between the government and AIMTC managing committee members.

The strike had led to a rise in the prices of essential commodities up to 10-15 per cent in various parts of the country since the truckers' agitation began.

On Sunday, truckers in many parts of the country, including Mumbai, Pune, Jaipur and Hasan (in Karnataka) had withdrawn their strike, restoring normal supplies although inter-state movement of goods as well as transportation of industrial products were affected.
