Wipro, Sun tie-up to expand Gulf operations

Software major Wipro [Get Quote] has tied up with Sun Microsystems to widen its reach within the Gulf Cooperation Council countries such as UAE and Saudi Arabia.

As part of the deal, Wipro would resell and integrate the entire suite of Sun systems, storage, software, and services to serve Sun's customers in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Oman and Qatar.

"The Sun-Wipro alliance addresses complex issues our customers face today, including increasing demands for enterprise security, business integration, and open source secure operating systems in addition to network access, bandwidth and storage being driven by explosive growth in network participation and sharing," said Bruno Haubertin, partners and sales organisation manager, Sun Microsystems, the Middle East and North Africa.

"Wipro has... a strong team of professionals delivering key services within the region," added Haubertin. "We are confident that our wide expertise in implementation complex infrastructure solutions around Sun's technologies including Solaris 10 adoption, identity management... backed by our dedicated centres of excellence on JavaES and Solaris will deliver value to the customers," said Wipro general manager Rajan Sampath.

Wipro have pioneered a Global delivery model with program management for faster rollout of web services, applications and infrastructure upgrades delivering cost savings and improved quality to IT operations that will guarantee Sun's customers added value and a competitive edge.

Wipro has over 50 development centres, 743 clients and 92,000 employees in 53 countries across the globe.
