Amidst crisis in the aviation industry, no-frills carrier SpiceJet has announced a surprise reduction in fares by doing away with the congestion charge of Rs 150.
"Fares on our network will be now significantly lower on advance purchase. We have removed the congestion charge completely.
"With improved infrastructure available, we do not face this problem anymore. Since there is no congestion impacting our service, we want to pass on the benefit to the customers," SpiceJet chief commercial officer Samyukth Sridharan said.
The reduced fares would be effective from Wednesday, he said.
The airline has been charging a congestion fee of Rs 150 on all flights. The reduction in basic fare would range between 10-12 per cent for flights booked 10-15 days in advance.
