Communist Party of India MP and veteran trade unionist Gurudas Dasgupta on Monday termed the Sixth Pay Commission report as 'Janata Virodhi' (anti-people).

He fumed at Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram for reportedly making some disparaging comments against the Left while accepting the report. "Chidambaram is unfit to be the finance minister," he said and alleged that "the FM is pro-US, pro-World Bank."

Calling upon all the trade unions in the country to agitate on a massive scale against the 6th Pay Commission recommendations, except the moderate hike in the third and fourth class employees' salaries, Dasgupta pointed out that the country cannot bear the 40 per cent hike proposed at the higher levels.

He also opposed the proposal to increase retirement age to 62 years and to impose a ban on recruitment.

"There are more than 15 crore (150 million) unemployed youth in the country. How can the government justify these recommendations?" he asked. Rationalisation of man-power, another key recommendation of the Pay Commission is 'anti-national,' he declared.
