The government's Rs 60,000-crore debt waiver package for farmers, announced in the Budget proposals on Friday, has been dragged to court as a public interest litigation has been filed in the Supreme Court questioning the basis on which the government has arrived at this figure.
The PIL by advocate M L Sharma has sought a direction to the Finance Ministry and the Reserve Bank of India [Get Quote] to place the list of banks and the loan amount due to them.
